A resource centering around Indigenous ways of knowing and being, together with a Two-Eyed Seeing approach to mental health and wellbeing

About the project

Indigenous communities are about culture, traditions, and relationships.  When it comes to supporting the mental health of Indigenous youth, our goal is to improve mental health literacy through a culturally responsive and evidence-based mental health literacy curriculum resource.  This resource will be developed to improve student outcomes, centre Indigenous worldviews and prioritize Indigenous engagement and self-determination.

The resource will identify Indigenous culture (language, land, nature, tradition and community links) as the foundation and be based on a holistic approach.  It will also promote the capacity to achieve and maintain mental wellbeing so that youth become more resilient. The resource is designed to help youth develop an understanding of mental health while reducing stigma, enhancing help-seeking behaviours.

By working directly with Indigenous communities across Canada to inform our research, this resource will centre Indigenous ways of knowing and being, together with a Two-Eyed Seeing approach to mental health and wellbeing.
